Community Connect Project

The Community Connect Project is an initiative which has been facilitated and led by the Local Strategy Partnership for Derry City Council Area.  The project began in November 2003 with a call for applications for ICT support.  It aims to enable community groups, businesses and the general public to harness the potential of ICT and Internet technology for their community development, commercial and personal goals.  Participant groups and businesses have received Internet ready computer technology, as well as backup and support towards one-year Internet/Broadband connection.
The project involved three distinct programmes of support in the provision of ICT equipment:

Provision of an Internet-ready computer and printer for up to 40 community groups across the City and District.  Groups demonstrated that they either did not have access to a computer for their group administration, or that the current computer was too outdated for efficient use.  One year’s broadband connectivity has been provided where available.

Provision of community access points at community premises throughout the city and district.  Twelve  5-computer networks have been installed utilising broadband connectivity where available.

50% grant-aid for computer and peripherals for small businesses across the city and district.  One year’s broadband connectivity has been provided where available.
